The Arc Thrift Store & Donation Center is a vital and impactful part of The Arc of Butte County, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We take pride in being more than just a place to donate your gently used household items and clothes.
By donating to The Arc of Butte County, you are making a significant and meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with IDD in our community. Our thrift store was established with a mission to provide work experience for adults with IDD, helping them gain valuable skills that are hard to obtain. The funds generated by our store help fund Arc programs, creating opportunities and enhancing the lives of those we serve.

Donation Guidelines
We are located at 2020 Park Avenue, Chico, CA 95928, and are open Sunday-Saturday for Donation Drop-offs.
- All items must be reasonably sellable, without extensive repair or cleaning needed.
- Receivers and managers have the final say if any items are inappropriate for donation.
If you have large items that you would like to donate, scheduling a pickup is easy! Simply give our thrift store a call at (530)343-3666, and we’ll arrange a convenient time to come pick up your donation. By donating large items, you’re not only clearing space in your home but also supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through our programs.

- Small appliances in working order

- Hand tools

- Vehicles (Including cars, boats, RV’s, motorcycles & more)
What We Do Not Accept
- Hazardous Waste, including any flammable liquid or gas, paint, batteries
- Soft or Upholstered Furniture
- Household linens & bedding
- TV cabinets
- Large office desks
- Household cleaners or chemicals
- Fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide, or chemical sprayers
- Fluorescent lightbulbs or tubes
- Printers, scanners, fax machines, bread-makers, laptops, or e-waste
- Building materials
- Hospital beds or bedside commodes
- Medical equipment
- Cribs, highchairs, bassinets, bath basins, car seats
- Floatation devices and helmets
- Large household appliances, sinks, toilets
- Fridges, freezers, anything with coolant
- Any item that runs on flammable gas, such as grills & yard equipment
- Any electrical item that wires into the home
- Mattresses, box springs, bed pillows, and mattress covers
- Sofa beds or bed frames
- Heated blankets or any personal item with a heating element
- Footbaths, hair styling tools, any personal grooming item (unless sealed and unused)
- Soap, shampoo, lotion, and any personal grooming products (unless sealed and unused)
- Humidifiers and air purifiers
- Magazines and encyclopedias
- Televisions
- Computer monitors
- Any unsellable items at employee’s discretion.
How to Donate a Vehicle
- Call The Arc Store & Donation Center at (530)343-3666 or email us at thearcstore@arcbutte.org to inquire about donating your car, boat, or other motor vehicle. Donors will be asked to provide all known vehicle information.
Approved donations can be driven directly to our store, located at 2020 Park Avenue in Chico. Donated vehicles must be reasonably sellable (tires hold air, windows are intact, etc.). The donor may tow vehicles if Arc Store Management approves them beforehand.
We’ll handle the paperwork. You only need the vehicle title to sign off on your donation officially. Parties listed on the vehicle title must be present for donation.
- If the title states Person 1 “and” Person 2 = Both people must be present.
- If the title states Person 1 “or” Person 2 = Only one of the listed parties must be present.
The Arc of Butte County is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donors will receive a form 1098-c for tax purposes after selling the vehicle. Your tax deduction is based on the amount The Arc can sell your vehicle for. Our experienced team evaluates each car to determine how to get the best sale price. We consider many factors, including year, make/model, mileage, and local market conditions. It is in our mutual best interest to sell your car for the most we can.
Store Policies
Safety is our #1 concern. In order to prioritize the well being of those who work at and visit our store, we ask that you kindly adhere to The Arc Thrift Store & Donation Center policies and guidelines
No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service
- A shirt, pants, and shoes are required upon entry and must be worn for the duration of your visit
Discounts & Sales
- Our daily/weekly/monthly sales can be found on social media
- Individuals 55+ can enjoy a 25% off storewide discount every Wednesday
- Coupons and gift certificates must be present for use
No Large Bags
- Backpacks and large bags must be left at/behind front counter or in your vehicle
Returns
- All sales are FINAL, with the exception of electronics. Electronics may be returned within 7 days for store credit (must have receipt)
No Public Restrooms
- Due to safety concerns, no public restrooms or dressing areas are available at this time
Sanitization
- We are doing our best to sanitize all donated items before they are priced and placed throughout our store – Cleanliness is our priority, but we ALWAYS suggest you wash or sanitize the items you purchase before use
The Right to Refuse Service
- We reserve the right to refuse service to any person
- Clients, staff, and other customers must be treated respectfully
- No person can enter who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol
