Family Support Program

Keeping Families Together

The Arc of Butte County offers a range of comprehensive Family Support Programs aimed at fostering healthy family dynamics and empowering caregivers, including support for parents, guardians, grandparents, and care providers of children with various conditions such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome.

Our warm and inclusive environment provides a safe space for families to come together, share experiences, and exchange valuable insights. 1:1 childcare is provided for both children with disabilities and their siblings, ensuring that families can fully participate in our support groups without worry. Additionally, families are encouraged to attend multiple support groups to access a wide range of resources and connect with others facing similar challenges. Through facilitated discussions and workshops, families learn effective strategies and coping mechanisms, enhancing their ability to care for their children and navigate challenges with confidence. Our programs prioritize building resilient families by fostering connections, promoting learning, and fostering a sense of community among participants.

Meeting Hours

Our Saturday Respite Program meets twice monthly on rotating Saturdays and various locations. Our Spanish Speaking Support Group meets the 1st Tuesday of every month. Our Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month.

Pre-registration is required! Please call 530-399-7246 to RSVP.

This support group is thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of families navigating the challenges associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Families convene in a safe and welcoming environment to discover new strategies and coping techniques for any obstacles they encounter. Meanwhile, dedicated staff ensure the well-being of children in a separate area, prioritizing opportunities for social interaction and recognizing its significance as a common area of difficulty for children on the spectrum. Some sessions may feature targeted workshops, covering topics like self-determination and Individualized Service Plans (ISP), while others focus on fostering a nurturing and accepting atmosphere for all participants.

FOCUS is a support-based program that fosters mutual support and understanding among parents. Within this program, a nurturing environment is cultivated where individuals can openly discuss challenging topics, including the ongoing struggles related to accessing services and medical care and preserving a sense of normalcy amidst adversity. Through this shared journey, meaningful connections are forged among parents facing similar circumstances, providing invaluable emotional support and solidarity. Meanwhile, Arc instructors ensure the well-being of the children, enabling families to participate fully in the program. Regardless of ability, children and their siblings are welcome to take part in safe recreational activities while families engage in confidential and uplifting peer support sessions.

The Rainbow of Kids Club offers a Saturday Respite Program to offer families a well-deserved break from their caregiving responsibilities. Our dedicated team of experienced staff provides temporary care and companionship, ensuring that each child’s needs are met with sensitivity and expertise. Whether through one-on-one attention or group activities, we tailor our support to accommodate the unique requirements of every child. This program is client-specific and offers non-client sibling care.

In our inclusive environment, children can engage in various age-appropriate activities, fostering social interaction with peers of all abilities. From creative arts and crafts to stimulating puzzles and games and enjoying music, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, we organize monthly outings to parks, baseball games, picnics, and other enriching experiences, prioritizing safety above all else.

This support group offers valuable assistance tailored to Spanish-speaking individuals within the Regional Center service area. Like all our Family Support Programs, we provide a safe and nurturing environment where families can come together to offer each other support and understanding away from distractions. Additionally, we ensure safe recreational childcare, granting families the time and space to engage in meaningful exchanges and mutual assistance.

In alignment with the ASD Support Group, this program is thoughtfully crafted to cater specifically to families of children with Trisomy 21, commonly known as Down syndrome. In collaboration with the Chico Down Syndrome Connection, we ensure children engage in suitable activities, such as games or other recreational pursuits. While parents concentrate on aspects of life that are intimately influenced by their child’s diagnosis, they are supported in navigating these challenges with compassion and understanding.

This group is dedicated to addressing the unique needs of parents or caregivers, offering a supportive environment where they can openly discuss challenges, seek guidance, and explore opportunities for growth. We aim to foster inclusivity and respect, acknowledging the diverse
experiences and perspectives within our community while providing tailored support and solutions for any difficulties families may encounter or wish to explore further.
