The Arc of Butte County Receives $10,000 Grant for Emergency Preparedness Packs for ILS Clients

The Arc of Butte County is proud to announce that it has received a generous $10,000 grant from the Donna Murrill Memorial Fund at the North Valley Community Foundation. This grant will be used to provide Emergency Preparedness Packs to our Independent Living Skills (ILS) clients, enhancing their safety and resilience in the face of potential emergencies.

The Emergency Preparedness Packs are designed to equip 284 ILS and ADP clients with essential items needed during an emergency evacuation. Each pack will include critical supplies such as water, food rations, a first aid kit, an emergency whistle/compass, an emergency blanket, a rain poncho, a KN95 mask, a battery-free crank flashlight, tissue packs, antiseptic wipes, and personal hygiene items like deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, and shower wipes.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the Donna Murrill Memorial Fund at the North Valley Community Foundation,” said Katrina Woodcox, Executive Director of The Arc of Butte County. “This grant will enable us to enhance the emergency preparedness of our clients, ensuring they have the necessary resources and knowledge to handle emergencies effectively.”

In addition to providing the packs, The Arc of Butte County will conduct educational sessions to teach clients how to use the emergency supplies properly. These sessions will be facilitated by our trained ILS instructors, who will guide clients through the contents of the packs and demonstrate essential emergency preparedness skills.

The project is expected to be completed within three months, with the first month dedicated to assembling the packs and training instructors, and the subsequent two months focused on distributing the packs and conducting educational sessions.

The Arc of Butte County has been serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1962, offering a range of programs and services that promote independence, community involvement, and overall well-being. This grant from the Donna Murrill Memorial Fund is a testament to the ongoing support and commitment of our community partners in helping us fulfill our mission.
